-Live music by by Tim Brey, Wayne Smith Jr, Madison Rast, Karen Smith, and John Swana,

-Vegan food and refreshments catered and served covid safely on our socially distanced patio.

These events are in conjunction with the release of the book Birds of North America

Featuring drawings by Susan Hagen And poems by Nathalie Anderson and Lisa Sewell

A 128-page book, featuring 82 of Susan Hagen’s miniature drawings of North American Birds, accompanies the exhibition. Hagen encountered the birds mostly while walking in wetlands, forests, and urban landscapes in and around Philadelphia in 2020-21. The format of the text, by collaborating poets Nathalie Anderson and Lisa Sewell, is derived from the rondelet, whose back and forth structures echo the way birds call and sing to each other across space. The book was beautifully designed by Andrea Hemmann of GHI Design and can be purchased for $20 at The Drawing Room.

As is the CDC recommendation for safety with the Delta Variant, we are going to be checking Vaccination cards at the door as well as wearing masks inside. If you feel sick, stay home.

cadence

When curating the show, it was a challenge to create a logical flow and transition between the diverse styles of pieces. I wanted to make sure that no artist’s work was dominating or being subsumed by the art around it. My intention was that each drawing be positioned in a way that honored the individual work and also engaged in a dialog with the pieces surrounding it.

Here are 3 of the 5 pieces we are showing from the artist Eve/Evan Greensweig. Their bold and graphic approach to drawing is contemporary and organic and grouped together would make a stunning wall in any space.
